1. What it is

CodeMi is an iPhone app for controlling Kimi Code on your computer through Kimi's Remote Control. If Remote Control gets switched off (by accident, or after a Kimi Code update), your phone can't reach the computer anymore. The CodeMi Helper is a small background program on your computer that lets CodeMi turn Remote Control back on.

It's optional. CodeMi offers it after your first connection, and you can remove it at any time.

CodeMi and the helper are made by MannyD Labs. They are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by Moonshot AI, the maker of Kimi and Kimi Code.

2. What it does, and nothing else

  • Keeps one outgoing connection to relay.mannydlabs.com. It opens no ports on your computer.
  • When CodeMi asks, it reads Kimi Code's Remote Control status, or turns Remote Control on. It does this through Kimi Code's own local API on 127.0.0.1, the same request as the switch in Kimi Code's Settings → Remote Control. If Kimi Code was quit, it opens Kimi Code first.
  • Removes itself when you choose Remove Helper in CodeMi.

Those are the only three requests it answers (status, enable and uninstall). It does not run any other commands, read your files or projects, need administrator rights, or update itself. The only files it reads are its own settings and Kimi Code's local server port and token (~/.kimi-code/server/instances/*.json and ~/.kimi-code/server.token), which it needs to talk to Kimi Code on the same computer.

3. Where it installs

macOSWindows
Program~/Library/Application Support/CodeMi Helper/codemi-helper, signed with Apple Developer ID (MannyD Labs, team 28SERP79H5)%LOCALAPPDATA%\CodeMi Helper\helper.ps1, a PowerShell script you can open and read
StartupLaunchAgent ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.mannydlabs.codemi.helper.plistStartup entry CodeMi Helper in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run (your user only)
Log~/Library/Logs/CodeMi Helper.log%LOCALAPPDATA%\CodeMi Helper\helper.log

4. How it's installed and checked

CodeMi doesn't install anything by itself. It puts a message in a Kimi Code session called CodeMi Helper, and Kimi Code runs the command after you send the message and allow it. The installers are plain scripts you can read first: install.sh (macOS) and install.ps1 (Windows).

macOS:
curl -fsSL https://relay.mannydlabs.com/install.sh | sh -s -- <pairing-code> <helper-sha256>

Windows (PowerShell, Command Prompt or Git Bash):
powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command "& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://relay.mannydlabs.com/install.ps1))) <pairing-code> <helper-sha256>"
  • Pairing code. 32 random bytes that CodeMi makes for that one computer. Only your CodeMi has it; the relay stores only its SHA-256, so the code itself is never kept on the server.
  • Helper SHA-256. The checksum of the exact helper that your version of CodeMi expects, built into the app. The installer refuses any download that doesn't match, so the server can't change what gets installed.

5. Removing it

In CodeMi, open the menu, then Computers → Remove Helper. Or run the installer with --uninstall:

macOS:
curl -fsSL https://relay.mannydlabs.com/install.sh | sh -s -- --uninstall

Windows:
powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command "& ([scriptblock]::Create((irm https://relay.mannydlabs.com/install.ps1))) --uninstall"

This stops the helper and deletes its folder and its startup entry. Nothing else on your computer is changed.

6. The relay and your data

relay.mannydlabs.com passes CodeMi's status, turn-on and remove requests to the helper on your paired computer. For each pairing it stores only whether Kimi Code is running and whether Remote Control is on. The computer's name passes through to your iPhone but isn't stored. It never sees your Kimi sign-in, your sessions, your prompts or your files; those go only through Kimi's own Remote Control. The relay keeps no logs of what you do in Kimi Code. Removing the helper in CodeMi also deletes that stored status.

CodeMi keeps your list of computers and their pairing codes in your iCloud Keychain, so your own iPhone and iPad share them. MannyD Labs can't read them.
